Last chance to visit Stody Lodge Gardens this May

Stody Lodge Gardens will open its doors to the public for the final two open days in its 2017 flowering season.

Open from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday 28th May and Bank Holiday Monday 29th May, visitors will be amazed by the towering rhododendrons now lining the gardens' many walkways with beautiful blooms. This magnificent colour is softened by lily of the valley and bluebells below.

As always our busy garden lovers will be fuelled with delicious homemade teas by local charities. On Sunday 28th May the teas will be provided by Heritage House and on Bank Holiday Monday 29th May they will be provided by St Johns Ambulance.

Don't miss this last opportunity to enjoy the magic of this May-flowering garden.

Entrance is £6, children under 12 free.

Only 3 weeks until our brilliant Stody Family Fun Day on Sunday 5 May 🤩. New for this year is a free ‘animal flow’ kids yoga session with Hannah @the_strong_yogini and a fabulous art activity with local artist @mary_blue_creates which is only £3 per child. We’ve got our excellent Fun Dog Show, lots of farmyard animals, cute and cuddly animals, a treasure hunt, face painting, fete games on the lawn, @dannsicecream and delicious teas by the @holt_youth_project. Our young Prunus ‘Tai Haku’ or Great White Cherry has weathered the recent blustery winds well. It’s beautiful pure white single flowers are clinging on! It’s going to look stunning against the yew hedge when it reaches full maturity in 10-20 years time. A sweet bumble bee enjoying one of our several Enkianthus campanulatus - such an unassuming but truly stunning shrub that comes into its own each spring with its creamy bell shaped flowers. Part of the Ericaceae or heather family, it is very at home in our acid, ericaceous soil. #rhododendrongarden #acidlovingplants #norfolkgarden #opengarden

V pleased with this delicious smelling and flower-filled bouquet - not a bad haul for a March garden! We have highly scented #clematisarmandii, #osmanthusburkwoodii and the beautiful white #camellia that we can’t stop picking. Rather bridal in look, and very satisfying as the #clematis and #osmanthus were recent plantings near the conservatory and the scent, after two years, is now wafting in through the windows. #opengardens, #norfolkgarden #scentedflowers #rhododendrongarden

Every year we’re charmed by a ‘new’ plant that has as yet escaped our full attention. This beautiful, simple white #camellia has stolen the show this spring - its perfect petals are gardenia or rose-like in their arrangement, and such a treat to enjoy something this luxurious so early in the year. It doesn’t correspond to any of the four (of our many) camellias listed by the gardener here in the 60s. Might anyone know what it is? Ideas gratefully received. On Sunday 26th May, Stody Lodge Gardens will host an 'Antiques Roadshow' style event with local auctioneeers, Bishop & Miller. Visitors to the gardens will not only enjoy Stody's 200 varieties of rhododendrons and sweetly scented azaleas, but are also invited to bring small, portable items for expert appraisal. The team of Bishop & Miller specialists will take up temporary residence on the main lawn to offer free valuations of items such as silverware, jewellery, clocks, watches, paintings including East Anglian art, Asian and Oriental art, coins, medals, ceramics, textiles and small pieces of furniture. Hurrah! Our #aconites, planted ‘in the green’ last year, have just popped up and will hopefully spread and intermingle with our #snowdrops to create a carpet of white and yellow in the Woodland Garden… it might take ten years but it will be worth the wait! Plus #crocus and a lone early daffodil. It’s happening - #springiscoming 😍

We'd like to hear from any charities who might like to fundraise with us in our tea rooms next May. Charities must be able to provide at least 9 volunteers to run the tea rooms successfully (from which they take all the proceeds) and will need willing bakers amongst their supporters. In May 2023, we raised a fantastic £15,336 for a variety of local causes.
