We think the Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity team are so fab that we have twinned the colour of our signature Rhodendron 'Cynthia' to exactly the same deep fuschia pink as their branding and t-shirts 🤭. They are doing a roaring trade as I type and our visitors are quaffing down their delicious cakes and savoury treats, either enjoying them in the shaded woodland by the tea rooms or taking them out on to the sunshine filled lawn ☀️. The gardens are peppered with many of our favourite deep pink Rhododendon 'Cynthia' including The Pink Arch, Cynthia Walk and Rhododendron Drive which takes you down to the Azalea Water Gardens. Should we be looking at more original names for our garden areas?! Perhaps!! The gardens are now in full flower 🌸🌼🌺! We are open 1pm -5pm every Wednesday to Friday and each Sunday for the duration of May, as well as Bank Holiday Monday 26th May (our final day.) Each open day will have a different local charity proving homemade teas, giving you a great afternoon out. We can’t wait to welcome our NGS garden aficionados tomorrow, as well as the general public and antique lovers for our @bishopandmillerauctions Valuation Day this coming Sunday. After a further three quieter mid-week open days (13-16 May,) we will then welcome back our classic vehicle lovers on Sunday 18th May. We’re so excited about our very own ‘Antiques Roadshow’ here at Stody Lodge Gardens this Sunday 11 May, 1pm-5pm. Local auction house and valuers, Bishop & Miller, will assemble a crack team of their specialists under tenting on the main lawn. Bring small portable items for FREE valuation - anything from medals to jewellery to small paintings, ceramics, silverware, watches and textiles - you name it, they can value it! We are sure to find some treasures…. 💍🖼️🎖️🏺⌚️. Once you have discovered your erstwhile trinket is now worth a surprising fortune, you can celebrate with a walk around Stody’s 14-acres of flowers - we are now in full BLOOM. There also will be delicious homemade teas by the fantastic @pbhospice as well as savoury treats from @smashanddashtruck and beverages from @eastcoastbars. Not to mention @dannsicecream - there is something for everyone. Just picked some flowers for the house. An initial attempt to stick to a sensible colour scheme failed completely as you can see from this overloaded basket. The colour is emerging at pace and every corner of the garden reveals a new azalea or rhododendron bursting into bloom. Just in time for our first open day this Sunday 27 April. We’re open from 1pm to 5pm and teas will be provided by and in aid of the excellent Norwich NSPCC. They fundraised with us last year and do great cake! This is an ideal Sunday to visit if you’d like to take advantage of the garden being quieter before our special events later in the month. Nestled in the yew hedge at the far end of the recently replanted Dawn Garden I found ‘The Museum of Abstract Artefacts.’ Below our flower-laden Prunus ‘Tai Haku’ (now in its 3rd year and looking fabulous) my knowledgable tour guide showed me some brilliantly random things including: - a very delicate and precious JD Sports badge - the world’s first slingshot - the world’s earliest football - the first cricket ball ever made - The world’s longest ever pencil etc etc (you get the idea!) A timely reminder as we rush about weeding, edging and putting out signs before we open our gates this coming Sunday 27th April, that this is, after all, a family garden. But! all evidence of children’s mess will be hidden away for our discerning garden lovers this coming Sunday (the gardens are looking stunning already thanks to the wonderful recent sunshine), then pulled back out again for our very jolly and jam-packed Family Fun Day on Sunday 4th May. Just back from a few days away and… wow - our magnolias are in full flow 😊. Such a lovely sight both today and for millennia before - fossilised magnolia flowers have been found that are 95 million years old, dating from the time of the dinosaurs, making magnolia one of the oldest flowering plants. In ancient China, magnolias were symbolic of womanly beauty and gentleness, of nobility and dignity.
